New lucas spot lights

I was well chuffed when I spotted these at the tatton park classic show, last weekend.
I just need to figure out how to fit them to the front valance now.

Different Differential makes all the difference.

Well I spent most of the day changing my whiney diff with the help of Chris Fish.
I have to say the result has transformed the car, no more whine when I drive and we took the opportunity to change the lowering block from 3/4 inch to an inch to help with the camber, which was slightly positive.

Getting the diff off was not too bad once we had collectively strained and groaned at just how tight the half shaft bolts were. Once off we swapped the backs of the diff so I was able to maintain the 6 hole casing on the new diff, as I have a fixed spring.

Putting it back on was the fun heavy bit, but after some persuasion with a rubber mallet and a jack the diff was back in place. We bolted everything back up and filled up with oil. Happily it didn't run straight back out again.

The result is a much quieter car, well at least for the occupants, with pretty much neutral camber.

Shiney stuffy

Well i got my polishing kit from ebay from a company called http://www.polish-it.co.uk/ the other day and had some fun polishing the carb bodies and the manifold and it is very shiney.

There is always a down side to classics gladly this one is not too expensive to fix. My brake light switch had been faulty and it fell appart in when it took it out. Ah well will have to source a new one now, thankfully the switches are easy to get at the local autoparts shop for only a couple of quid.

More cleaning and painting - part 2

In the garage again today for i think about 4 hours even though i had only intended to do an hour, i started by cleaning up the inlet manifold which in it previous life had been badly painted. The bosh wire brush for my power drill is beginning to be my best buy as it made mince meat of the rubish paint and brough the manifold up to a nice shine.
Then i moved on to the petrol pump which was looking poor I gave it the same treatment and it cam up nice too. I am trying to decide whether to lacquer the pump as it seems to oxidise quite quicky in the damp weather.

I also managed to get my new spacer for the pump from Mick Dolphin, fits perfectly thanks to Mick for that. http://www.mickdolphin.co.uk/ as his site says "try him for that elusive part"

More engine painting and cleaning - part 1

Well i got back into the garage the other day and decided that a half finished job was really no use at all so go stuck in to the painting again.

The silver is looking nice I must admit i wasn't sure at first but it looks much better than the mint green DPO painted it. I especially like the red vacum and intend to do the head the same colour just needed about 9 coats to get it that glossy. I intend to paint the fan red too, not sure of what sort of paint to use yet might just try the engine paint and see what happens

1500 power

this blog is beginning to look a bit poor with postings ever 6 months, news resolution posts more often.

Anyhow I have purchased a 1500 engine for OKIE which sits proudly at the back of the garage and has done for some months, i managed to get a j-type overdrive at the same time so i will have so fun extra gears.

I am painting the engine before it goes in and checking bits and pieces on it. Was a good runner before the spit it was in rusted away to the point of no return
